Major Balbir Singh Sodhi (Amitabh Bachchan), once a respected officer, shocks the nation with an attempted assassination of the Indian Home Minister, Veer Bhadra Singh (Danny Denzongpa). Though his plan fails, he becomes a wanted man, with the army launching a manhunt to court-martial him for his actions. The authorities suspect that Sodhi has gone into hiding, assuming the identity of Devraj Hathoda, also known as Dadabhai.
